In this session you will learn practical advice derived from 20+ years of experience working with the Java Community. How developers can manage their careers and create opportunities for further advancement by participating in collaborative activities such as open-source development projects and the Java Community Process. You will also learn about how Java is evolved through the Java Community Process and how you can participate in that evolution as an individual, as a representative of your employer, or as a member of a nonprofit organization such as a Java user group. Bio
Heather VanCura leads the JCP Community and Program Office. In her role she is responsible for the day-to-day nurturing, support, and leadership of the community. In this role she also is an international speaker, mentor and leader or hack days. Heather oversees the JCP.org web site, JSR management, community building, events, marketing, communications, and growth of the membership. She is also a contributor and leader of the community driven Java in Education Programs. In 2014, Heather became Spec Lead for JSR 364, Broadening JCP Membership, as part of the ongoing JCP.Next effort. Heather is passionate about Java and developer communities. She enjoys trying new sports and fitness activities in her free time.
